Years of being pulled on and off shelves, the smoke from coal fires, rooms that were too damp or too dry, and the occasional insect, have all taken their toll
We are working to improve the conditions in the library to ensure the longer-term preservation of our books, and simple cleaning and conservation measures are completed in-house with our fantastic team of volunteers. However, some of the books require more complex work than we can do in the library, and these would benefit from the attention of a bookbinder.
Our Adopt a Book scheme allows you to donate money to support a book to be repaired and rebound. We are currently assessing the books in our care and will shortly be bringing details of key titles that are in need of more complex and urgent repair. In the interim you can donate to the general scheme below. If you would like to discuss any aspect of our collection care or talk about supporting the conservation programme at the library please contact Amy Le Huquet or Chrissie Van Mierlo.
